Microsoft Axes “Coffin Program” for RROD Xbox 360’s

June 9th, 2009 · 1 Comment

xbox 360 coffin program endsIf you got a DOA Xbox 360 in the past, Microsoft would not only pay the shipping but they’d also send you a custom-made-for-the-360 box to send it back in so that it was packaged properly. Well, they’ve decided this doesn’t make any sense (they’re right), it’s an unnecessary expense (it is), and ended it (good call). You see, they’re giving you a nice new custom-made box to send them a broken Xbox 360 with–this would make sense if it were a perfectly good, working, Xbox 360 because you’d want it to be packaged properly so…that…it wouldn’t break…umm, right. Finally, Microsoft had the

epiphany of “wait a second, if it’s already broken then who cares how it’s packaged?”. Microsoft will still pay for shipping, providing a pre-paid e-label you can print out and slap on your own box to send it to them, but they’re not bothering with the box: their excuse was that this was done “in an effort to

expedite the repair process.”, and they’ve got a point in that waiting for that box to get to you is in fact adding several days to the time you’ll wait to get a working Xbox from them.
